Training for Hyrox without the overuse injuries

Running volume plus sled pushes and wall balls is a lot of repeated load. Here is how to structure training so your body keeps up.

By Dr. Joseph Sperlak, PT, DPT, CSCSPublished Updated

Hyrox combines running with functional stations, which means a lot of repetitive load on the knees, hips and lower back. Most overuse injuries come from adding volume faster than tissues can adapt.

Build the base first

Increase running and station volume gradually, keep strength work in the program year-round, and treat recovery as part of the training plan.
